The Story

Clover Foods was inspired through my experience with individuals in need of finding reliable food resources. I’ve worked as a retail worker at a grocery store during my sophomore year of college. The majority of the SNAP(Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) users were clueless about the amount of money left on the card along with having a hard time finding reliable food daily. Hence, Clover Foods as an intuitive resource platform assists users to find reliable food along with the integration of showing stores that accept SNAP nearby.

Responsibilities

Paper and digital wire framing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting interviews, usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and overviewing the design.

Understanding the User

User Persona and Problem statement

Megan is a single mother who needs food delivery options from local food banks because she is constantly working or taking care of her kid.

User research: Summary

I conducted interviews to understand the pain point of users and the primary need in using an online base resource service for people in need. The primary users are a group of adults who are currently enrolled in the local government SNAP program. The research confirmed that most users respond positively toward simple delivery or pick-up options. Moreover, research indicated simple guidance for most users impacted positively.

Pain Points

Pickups

Not only do users want the delivery option but some of the users wanted an option to pick up orders as they are close to the location.

Confirmation

The users wanted confirmation of their orders.

Initial Design

Digital Wireframe

The home page implements a design that shows the balance and a collage of resources ‘near me’ for users.

Low-Fidelity Prototype

The low-fidelity prototype focuses on the flow of selecting a local food bank and ordering selective items.

Refining the Design

Responsive designs

The goal for the web version is to allow donors to find appropriate methods of donating critical items but also accommodate users who are looking for food resources.

Takeaways

The Impact:

Clove foods is a local community-based food resource tool that allows users to discover different local food resources.

What I learned:

Accommodate the different circumstances such as housing and implement options that are appropriate for users in most needs.

Future Implementations

  • Expanding the web page to organize food drives in local communities

  • Implement a page on the mobile app to notify users of free hot and ready meals nearby.

  • Improving the community aspect that will improve donations and users in need to discover appropriate resources.
